Andrewski Posted September 2, 2003 Report Share Posted September 2, 2003 I'm not sure what I did, but I've just been generally configuring KDE today--themes and such--and tonight, I noticed that my fonts were ugly. I tried to change them back, thinking that the settings were off, but Sans and Monospace are no longer in my font list! Here are the files I have; can someone post theirs to see how they compare? root:andrew# locate sans && locate Sans /usr/lib/kbd/consolefonts/alt-sans-8x16.psf.gz /usr/share/apps/ksgmltools2/docbook/xsl/params/sans.font.family.xml /usr/share/xine/libxine1/fonts/sans-16.xinefont.gz /usr/share/xine/libxine1/fonts/sanshu-16.xinefont.gz /usr/share/xine/libxine1/fonts/sans-24.xinefont.gz /usr/share/xine/libxine1/fonts/sans-20.xinefont.gz /usr/share/xine/libxine1/fonts/sanshu-24.xinefont.gz /usr/share/xine/libxine1/fonts/sanshu-20.xinefont.gz /usr/share/xine/libxine1/fonts/sans-32.xinefont.gz /usr/share/xine/libxine1/fonts/sanshu-32.xinefont.gz root:andrew# locate monospace /usr/share/apps/ksgmltools2/docbook/xsl/params/monospace.font.family.xml /usr/share/apps/ksgmltools2/docbook/xsl/params/monospace.verbatim.properties.xml root:andrew# rpm -qa | grep font fonts-ttf-tamil-1.1-1mdk fontilus-0.4-2mdk libfontconfig1-2.1-9mdk chkfontpath-1.9.5-1mdk ghostscript-fonts-6.0-1mdk fonts-ttf-japanese-0.20020727-3mdk fonts-ttf-armenian-1.1-10mdk fonts-type1-greek-1.0-4mdk fonts-ttf-dustismo-1.92-1mdk fonts-ttf-thai-0.1-8mdk mplayer-fonts-1.0-8mdk fontconfig-2.1-9mdk font-tools-0.1-10mdk libfontconfig1-devel-2.1-9mdk XFree86-cyrillic-fonts-4.3-5mdk fonts-ttf-gb2312-1.0-19mdk fonts-bitmap-tscii-1.1-1mdk fonts-ttf-arabic-1.1-1mdk msfonts-1.2.1-2tex XFree86-75dpi-fonts-4.3-5mdk fonts-ttf-korean-2.1-3mdk msfonts-style-1.2.1-2tex fonts-ttf-big5-1.0-19mdk gfontview-0.5.0-9mdk urw-fonts-2.0-9mdk fonts-ttf-tscii-1.1-1mdk fonts-hebrew-elmar-3.3-7mdk taipeifonts-1.2-19mdk XFree86-100dpi-fonts-4.3-5mdk Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
Glitz Posted September 2, 2003 Report Share Posted September 2, 2003 Have you by any chance done something to change from 75dpi fonts to 100dpi fonts or vice versa? This always happens to me when I go from 75dpi to 100dpi fonts. I always have to pick new fonts since they don't have all fonts in common. At any rate, you should be able to find new good looking fonts. When selecting fonts, enlarge them to 64 points and make sure the edges are smooth. These are the scalable fonts that look good with antialiasing on. Glitz. Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
Andrewski Posted September 2, 2003 Author Report Share Posted September 2, 2003 Thanks for the tip; if I can't figure out what I did wrong, I'll just try to find some good ones here. But how would I switch to/from 75/100dpi fonts? I know they're both available, but where do I find those settings? Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
Andrewski Posted September 6, 2003 Author Report Share Posted September 6, 2003 Problem solved! My anti-aliasing had been turned off. I turned it back on in the Control Centre and Sans and Monospace were back. Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
Glitz Posted September 8, 2003 Report Share Posted September 8, 2003 Problem solved! My anti-aliasing had been turned off. I turned it back on in the Control Centre and Sans and Monospace were back. Okay, that's weird. Now we have an even bigger mystery on our hands... :o Glitz. Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
tyme Posted September 8, 2003 Report Share Posted September 8, 2003 some fonts may be anti-aliasing only (this is just a guess) which could explain it.... Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
