network card in debian

Recommended Posts

I know this card uses the tulip driver, mandrake, peanut and my LFS worked with it. I'm running kernel 2.2.20, 2.4 install didn't work, it came up with a ramdisk error. Can I apt-get install the 2.4? Or can I just download the 2.4 kernel .deb then install that or will it have deps?

I get the following:

(none):/home/james# modprobe tulip

/lib/modules/2.2.20-idepci/net/tulip.o: init_module: Device or resource

busy

Hint: insmod errors can be caused by incorrect module parameters,

including invalid IO or IRQ parameters

/lib/modules/2.2.20-idepci/net/tulip.o: insmod

/lib/modules/2.2.20-idepci/net/tulip.o failed

/lib/modules/2.2.20-idepci/net/tulip.o: insmod tulip failed

(none):/home/james# insmod tulip

Using /lib/modules/2.2.20-idepci/net/tulip.o

/lib/modules/2.2.20-idepci/net/tulip.o: unresolved symbol

pci_drv_unregister

/lib/modules/2.2.20-idepci/net/tulip.o: unresolved symbol

pci_drv_register

/lib/modules/2.2.20-idepci/net/tulip.o:

Hint: You are trying to load a module without a GPL compatible license

and it has unresolved symbols. Contact the module supplier for

assistance, only they can help you.

The driver is GPL in 2.4, i know that much.

any suggestions?

Thanks in advance

James
