Guest duir66
As a matter of fact I did a demo on it for my local LUG with version 0.1 or 1.0 or what ever the name of the first beta release was. Whatever, it was the one that ran on top of Redhat 7.2. I understand now, with v2, or whatever it runs atop Mandrake as well. It is pretty unique. It is launched as a "sealed app" after booting yer X. Seems to me to be a rip off of the Mozilla suite plus a text editor. By "sealed app" I mean it doesn't launch in a separate window but prevents access to the OS via the X-GUI. Upon launch you have about 5 or 6 different choices, in addition to being able to quit out. Very much geared towards business environment. I was actually rather amused to see access to a terminal window among it's choices. It did seem rather stable even @ v1. Definitely would take any confusion out of linux for a newbie as you cannot even see yer typical X while running it. Sort of like AOL for linux dummies. I'd really like to see them have it available as a boot option instead of merely being an application.

It just doesn't look like Moz at all. Hmm, I guess this means that it will be ripped off by AOL for version 9 or 10.
Guest anon
duir66 Thanks for the info, yes, its supposed to run on mdk 9.00 now . Not sure if i will try it or not, i need the term access, which is good, but having it as a boot option would, as you say, be better. Hmmm..... Can you still boot into kde or gnome if you log out ? Guest duir66
Yes. It runs on top of the window manager - at least 0.1 did - just like any other application. However, while running it prevents the user from accessing KDE or Gnome, etc. Sort of just takes over the whole screen. I didn't try launching it from a command line w/o window manager running. Hmm... I wonder if.......? I really don't know if it would need the dependencies running or not. I really do hope they are aiming for a mozilla-based window manager - no matter how simple and restrictive it may be. As it is, OEone is clearly aimed at the office environment. Production, production, production. Who knows? It might just work. That's how M$ did it.

Guest duir66
Sort of like what staroffice 5.1 did in windoze Oh no, far worse than Star Office 5.1 in Whendoze. It really takes it over. Best of luck.

Guest anon
looks to me like something i would put on my screeen when my grandparents come over.... Yes, but if it makes linux LOOK more user friendly, its a good thing. We can teach em to write scripts later !
