Getting Linksys WUSB v2.6 (USB Wireless Adapter) working

Has anyone had success in getting the Linksys WUSB v2.6 working?

So far I have had only limited success. I used the Atmel drivers which came with Mandrake 9.1, and they work some of the time, however I always have problems on bootup.

These include:

- Freezing at the Checking Hardware stage at bootup

- Kernel Panics

- Losing the network card, ie: eth0 just disappears (doing ifconfig shows

only lo), if I try unplugging it and plugging it back in with Linux booted,

then the computer fully freezes (with the keyboard lights flashing) and I

have to do a hard reboot.

It can take me up to 3 boots just to get to the desktop with a working

network card. All the hard rebooting is probably playing havoc with the

file system as well, I keep having to check it at startup.

So does anyone have any suggestions as to what I might try to fix this?

Any ideas/advice will be much appreciated.

Thanks,

Luke

Usb modems are real problem with linux wireless or not.

I don't have one but some of the suggestions I've heard are....

Don't keep unplugging and replugging the usb device. This just makes harddrake try to find it again and as you've found out it doesn't do a great job.

Turn off all plug and play in the bios.

If the modem has an ethernet plug get an ethernet card and use that.(you have wireless though and it probibly doesn't have that option.) Even the best are under 25 dollers. And they work all the time. This also saves a USB hookup for the important stuff like scanners and cameras.

You can shut off hardrake in the Mandrake Controle Center to keep it from looking for new hardware everytime it boots and everyfew seconds while running.

Ok, I'm just about to try out some of your suggestions.

Turn off all plug and play in the bios.

Just quickly, my BIOS has an option "Plug n Play OS" with the choices being Yes or No. What should I choose for this?

Unfortunately I don't have this option.

Thanks for the help
