OpenOffice file associations

I've recently installed Mandrake 9.1 on a Dell Latitude D800 laptop. I've uninstalled OpenOffice 1.0 and installed the 1.1RC. So far, so good. However, I found this evening that when I double click on a document of file type "OpenOffice.org 1.1 Text Document" (as displayed in Konqueror), instead of OOo opening, I am presented with the "Open with..." dialog. Now, I can add the associations OK, but I wanted to understand why the file type is not being used and OOo is not opening.

I'm using KDE as my desktop environment.

Thanks,

Des Dougan

Hey Des,

I see you've followed my advice. Welcome aboard!

Here's a link to my file association problem, that I referred to. My KDE thread.

Although, I hope someone can help you, if you search this forum, you'll see we aren't the first ones to have bizarre problems with KDE. You can try using Gnome's Nautilus browser with KDE. I like it better than Konqueror, although it's got its issues too.

Since you're so comfortable with the command line, why don't you look into some other window managers when you've got the time. That is if this file association thing really bothers you. I may not have the all the fancy features of KDE on fluxbox, including the automatic icon sorting that you seem to like, but fluxbox always does what I tell it to do, and at five times the speed.
