Guest Incubduction
Hi, I'm having quite the fustrating time with my new PDA and I was hoping somebody could help: I just recently bought a Palm Zire that comes only with a propietary USB cable. However, I cannot get any palm related software, (Kpilot, J-pilot) to actually sync with it. To see if it was even identifying it, I checked the [mandrake>configuration>hardware>usbview] in Gnome, and it shows blank until i attempt to sync from the palm's end, then it shows up with all the info, and it shortly dissapears froms the USBviewer.. So I'm pretty sure that the only problem is getting the programs to find the right device in it's settings... I've tied /dev/usb and /dev/ttys0, /dev/ttyS0, etc...and I just can't get it to work.. Just in case, I'll include the 'cat /proc/bus/usb/devices' thingy... SoulSe
Make sure you have a program called gpilotd installed and running. $ gpilotd & This is a daemon which allows Gnome to communicate with your PDA, once you install it, you can get it to start up everytime you start Gnome (should by default). Guest Incubduction
Make sure you have a program called gpilotd installed and running. $ gpilotd & This is a daemon which allows Gnome to communicate with your PDA, once you install it, you can get it to start up everytime you start Gnome (should by default). I tried that, and this is what it gives me... [rigo]$ gpilotd-Message: gnome-pilot 0.1.65 starting... gpilotd-Message: compiled for pilot-link version 0.11.3 gpilotd-Message: compiled with [VFS] [GOAD] [USB] [IrDA] [Network] gpilotd-WARNING **: Number of devices is configured to 0 gpilotd-WARNING **: No accessible devices available gpilotd-WARNING **: Number of pilots is configured to 0 gpilotd-Message: Activating CORBA server And I try synching, but it does nothing still. I still think it's because i don't know what device to specify in the Kpilot or J-pilot settings, since I don't seem to have a /dev/pilot ... SoulSe
Ok, the next step is a wizard that allows you to specify the user and set up your handheld. I remember it popping up the first time I hit the sync button... I guess there should be some other way of getting the wizard to run, but I'm not at my box right now so I can't investigate... anyone :?: Also try making sure you have all the necessary conduits installed. The output from gpilotd looks fine, now we need to specify a device... hmmm.... I'm wondering if there is a gpilotd.conf file or something somewhere.... damnit - will have to check when I get back to my box.
Guest Incubduction
The closest thing i found was ~/.gnome/gnome-pilot.d/gpilotd [General] sync_PC_Id=1991128257 progress_stepping=1 That was all that was in it...
SoulSe
So gpilot has the details for your host pc, but needs them for your pda. Have you tried Googling or checking gpilot's website? Somewhere will be the format for this file so you can hack it in yourself, or perhaps another solution.
Guest Incubduction
I checked out gnome pilot's site, and it's Doc/FAQ, it referred me to usbvisor.sourceforge.net, and I followed the walkthough it gave me... It then suggested ideas about recompling my kernel, but I didn't think that would be necessary if mandrake recognizes my device as USB, so..I skipped that, then I went through the whole process of creating links to devices and such, but to no avail it still doesn't work... I didn't reset though, ...I'm hoping it's my blind penchant for missing the obvious that keeps this from working: Oh, on Jpilot, it tells me the following: **************************************** Syncing on device /dev/pilot Press the HotSync button now **************************************** pi_bind Invalid argument Check your serial port and settings If you use a USB pilot press the Hotsync button before and repush the button Sync exiting with status -
apswartz
So, was this issue ever resolved?
