Now that the thread that I started as "gentoo..." has became devoted for emoticons :banghead: , I'll start this thread instead.

Back to my :gentoo: installation. I installed many things but many more still to be installed... The more I do, the more I need to do next (never mind screwing things up here and there). I'm sure that it'll take much more time before I know what I think of :gentoo: , so bear with me please.

It is interesting that it's not that hard to make :gentoo: for newbies while keeping the geeks happy, and I do hope that they'll make it so since newbies are more important, more or less, when it comes to Linux popularity and how long a distro srvives.

I have a question: Who makes :gentoo: ?

I have a question: Who makes  gentoo?

Daniel Robbins < drobbins@gentoo.org >. He uses/used to write articles for the IBM Developers Works site. Here is the history of the Gentoo distro by it's own author (series of articles named "Making the distribution"):

Thanks Aru. I'm used to read the IBM Developers Works news-email and and watch what gets posted on that site, but I never cared about Gentoo until I saw how interested the guys here are in it.

I think I'm almost finished. I emerged the most important pakages for me so far.

Gentoo is better than other distros in many ways. BUT the price is more, or much more, time until you can use it with comfort. And probably not many users are willing to pay that price.

I think I'll use it (when 1.4 reaches the final) only for the development part instead of RH while keep using MDK for other things. I guess with time I'll find out if it's the best distro for me, or not.

Good luck to all others who'll give it a try, and hope they'll enjoy it.
