Guest Char
First to clear that, i'm a bit of a newbie to Linux; I installed mandrake 9.1 with 'higher' security settings, and webmin is up and running (installed from install CD). I use the machine as router, internet connection functions fine. Local address is 192.168.1.1 From my other machine, I can browse to either .http://192.168.1.1, or https://192.168.1.1 and get the apache default page. However, I cant connect to this address on port 10000. Nothing happens, not even a 404. Not even when I turn off secure in the webmin miniserv config. As I installed 9.1 without X (no need nor space), and cant use lynx to connect (tried), I cant verify that it works locally, but it is running allright. Am I missing something (obviously)? Thanks for any help!
Guest anon
Don't know, but in case its a typo error, it should read, https://192.168.1.1:10000/ and http://192.168.1.1:10000/
SoulSe
Firstly: Can you connect to https://localhost:10000 on the machine itself? Have you specified 10000 as the Webmin port or are you perhaps using another? And this is the most likely problem: The firewall is blocking it. Open up the Mandrake Control Centre and disable your firewall and then try again. If this works, then add the 10000 port to your list of allowed ports and restart the firewall. Thanks for replying.. yes, specified port is 10000. lynx cont connect on localhost, so it might be the firewall indeed. Stupid question: how do I open MCC? (no Xwindows installed!) SoulSe
Well, the MCC requires X. Try typing drakconf - that should pop it up in X if you have it installed (sorry, not @ my box now). Otherwise man your firewall (probably shorewall) and try and figure out which file to add the port to.
Guest Char
Ok, I finally got it to work: Several problems (note: standard 9.1 installation!) 1st: During Boot, Webmin was NOT started, as it complains that port 10000 was already taken. I don't know by which service yet. -> I put webmin on port 10001, and could then access it after "shorewall clear" (firewall open). 2nd: I then tried to add port 10001 to this (already existing) firewall rule: ACCEPT loc fw TCP Any 80,443,22,20,21 (added ,10001) as this was the obvious one. It didn't work. It took me 2 hrs to find out that the "loc" zone (local) wasn't defined by mandrake Where you should expect "loc", mandrake uses "masq"... I changed "loc" to "masq" as source in the above rule, then it worked... Now I only still want to know what runs on port 10000.... Well.. I feel not bad for a newbie
Cannonfodder
I had the same problem when I tried to run it initially. I ended up uninstalling it and then installing from the webmin site with a tar.gz. That includes a setup program and all worked like a charm..
