RVDowning
With 2008 Spring, compiz-fusion always uses its titlebar. There is a command to fix this, "kwin --replace &", but where should it be placed? Edited April 11, 2008 by RVDowning
scarecrow
Since this should be run after KDE has loaded, it's sensible to create a .desktop file for it and put it in ~/.kde/Autostart The contents of the Desktop file should be something like [Desktop Entry] Comment= Comment[en-US]= Encoding=UTF-8 Exec=kwin --replace & GenericName= GenericName[en-US]= Icon=exec MimeType= Name= Name[en-US]= Path= StartupNotify=true Terminal=false TerminalOptions= Type=Application X-DCOP-ServiceType= X-KDE-SubstituteUID=false X-KDE-Username=
RVDowning
Guess I don't understand why all the other entries in the .desktop file are needed if there are none now. Why not create a .desktop with just the one entry: kwin --replace & Please pardon my ignorance.
daniewicz
RVDowning: I use an nvidia related startup file with a single line in my ~.kde/Autostart folder. It works just fine  and looks like this: #!/bin/bash nvidia-settings --load-config-only Just be sure to save this file as an executable file after placing it in ~.kde/Autostart folder. Hope this helps.
RVDowning
daniewicz: Yep, that looks like what I need. Thanks! :) PS. (I'd like you better if you didn't look like Woody Hayes )
daniewicz
The resemblance is uncanny isn't it.
RVDowning
Actually it didn't work. It seems to take me out of compiz-fusion and into kde. I guess I just need to wait until the repos are there to try to update stuff and download other stuff.
Greg2
You may be doing it too soon, before compiz-fusion is fully loaded? You could try using sleep sleep 10; kwin --replace & The 10 is a pause in seconds before your command, you can adjust that as needed to allow time for your desktop to load. RVDowning
All fixed. The problem was that emerald was not installed. It was not on the pwp dvd and so I had to get it from the online repositories. Once installed all was well. The tiitle bars show up as expected without having to execute any additional command anywhere.
