mystified
I'm trying to install a program called CASMATE using wine. I can get the install started, it asked for my HASP key and then quits on me. I realize I may not be successful with this but I'd really like to give it a try. It's old software that was written for Win 3.1 and I'm running it under ME and it's not very happy about it! This are the error messages I'm receiving: mystified@cs679105-98 CASWIN]$ wine Guest anon
Don't know anything of the app, but i assume you have read this; CASmate and Flexi 5.x users will find it increasingly difficult to operate efficiently as new Windows Operating systems are introduced. CASmate is an excellent 16-bit program, but all Windows versions since Win 95 are 32-bit Operating Systems. This means CASmate no longer has full access to Windows memory management, which leads to "crashes" and loss of data. In order to continue to design and cut signs efficiently, you may have to upgrade to a 32 bit program, such as FlexiSign 6.6. Due to Flexi's innovative "Load Profile" feature, you will still be able to use CASmate's graphic user interface and icons if you wish. For upgrade information, see the chart below. These are list prices. Please call or e-mail for best price. Please have your CASmate user number handy so we can process your upgrade. tyme
since CASMATE supposedly has problems with 32-bit systems, check the --winver option-there should be a way of telling wine to emulate earlier versions of windows with this option. if i had wine installed i'd give you a better idea, but i don't, this is just from memory... mystified
I'll do some more google searching and see what I can find out about the winver option. Thanks! Anon, yes I'm very familiar with that. The problem is that the other two computers that are running CASMATE have Win 98 on them. I tried installing Win 98 but since my computer is so new I couldn't find the drivers I needed. And the company I do contract work for will not upgrade because although the software isn't that expensive each HASP costs $2,000. Multiply that times 3 . . . :(
tyme
mysti: you could also try wine --help or man wine ;-) (the former is probably your best bet) but that still may not solve your problem.
mystified
Thanks tyme but I already tried that. I am getting a new error message. "Microsoft Visuall C++ Runtime Library, Error: MSVCRT.dll is not compatible with Win32s." :?
mystified
Okay, I downloaded and installed the latest version of wine I could find, 20030508, and found I was missing a few programs and after I installed them that fixed some of my problems. Through google research I was able to fix the rest. Now I'm down to ONE problem and although I get numerous google hits there's nothing that I read that tells me how to resolve the issue. It mostly talks about programming. :? This is the error: FIXME:pthread_cond_init Anyone that can help me will get their very own personalized rank!
emh
Does the program still run with that error? If it does, I wouldn't worry about it.
mystified
It gets halfway through installation and then freezes. :(
