Ok, I've run into this problem and haven't seen anything like it.

I've tried this on three different boards, exact same results. New KT333 chipset (with USB2 integrated) using USB Keyboard/Mouse combo. Boots into Linux fine. Via Network Adapter dead. USB Keyboard and mouse work. Restart (leave linux) Bios no longer detects USB Keyboard and Mouse. Powering down does not even solve problem. In fact, shutting down as long as you want doesn't seem to fix it. Remove power cord, or clear CMOS for a few minutes seems to be the only solution to get your USB keyboard to recognize again.

Boards I've ran into this on:

Chaintech Apogee 7VJL

Asus A7V333

Soyo Dragon Platinum

?

Damnedest thing I think I've ever seen (well, since like Slackware 4 when I blew a monitor up) :)

Tried the NOAPIC option, and Mandrake then recognizes the Via ethernet card and can use it.. but after you reboot, you still have no USB keyboard and have to physically unplug the unit for a few minutes.. weird!
