PCMCIA + Lite-On CDRW + Mandrake 9.1 + IBM laptop

Hey all,

I've been searching for somebody else with the same problem without any success. I have, however, found some things along the way I should try to do (I'm in class now so I'll try them in a couple of hours).

Anways, here's the issue. I have an IBM Thinkpad A21p laptop. I use a Lite On 12/10/32 CDRW, which connects via the PCMCIA port. The PCMCIA packages are installed and I do not believe any updates are available. This is on Mandrake 9.1. However, when the card is inserted and system boots, it brings up PCMCIA fine (with two beeps) but then crashes soon thereafter (I can't remember at the moment exactly when but I can check again). So, I remove the card, boot into Mandrake and things are well. I insert the card with OS booted and it just dies, nothing I can do save pressing the power button. So I reboot again and enable PCMCIA (via the power icon) and do the same thing. The card information shows but, again, the thing just dies. At this moment I cannot remember any specific errors that come up but I can always get those.

Now, the bizzare thing is that this worked well with Mandrake 8, 9, RedHat 8, 9 and FreeBSD 4.8.

Any help is of course appreciated. I will try a few things I've learned from reading the forums (i.e. changing the boot order, etc.).

Thanks,

Sebastian
