spinynorman
Sun Microsystems is to pay $1bn for open source database developer MySQL. MySQL's open source databases are widely used online, but Sun is hoping to increase their use in more traditional IT and enterprise settings. The database is used by many websites - 50,000 copies a day are downloaded. More at The Register.
Sunnyr
Yeh and I dont think sun will close anything off as sql is much too widespread and if they did anything rash people would be on them like hotcakes.
tyme
Even if they did, someone would just grab the codebase from before the license change and fork it. As long as it's under the GPL, it's all good - and I don't think Sun would be dumb enough to change it's license.
scarecrow
PostGreSQL is still opensource, and (as far as I'm concerned, at least) much snappier than mySQL. That said, I don't think Sun will change the EULA.
