beesea
first off, here's a screenshot of my problem. this only occurs when i move the mouse or press a key to turn my monitor back on after i've been away from my machine for a long time (ie. overnight, while i'm sleeping). this also means that my power saving settings have been in affect for a long time. this only happens with xfree 4.3 and fluxbox. i can reproduce this problem in gentoo (X 4.3 also), which runs on this same machine. anyone know how to fix this? could this be harmful to my monitor? bvc
fix? depends on what you consider a fix. You can use xset to turn dpms off, among other things.http://www.mandrakeusers.org/viewtopic.php?t=2012 This (see man xset or xset --help); xset s off s noblank dpms 0 0 0 turns everything off and is the only thing I've ever used it for. Now, if I'm going to be away for a while I turn the monitor off. or just let dpms it do it's thing for shorter periods of time. How close of a correct modeline for your monitor is in XFree86Config-4? http://koala.ilog.fr/cgi-bin/nph-colas-modelines Getting it just_right might solve the prob and is the only suggestion to a "fix" I can think there would be. beesea
depends on what you consider a fix. i'd like to not have my screen ****ed up like that whenever i go away for awhile. although i've had dpms disabled since i've had this problem, ideally i'd like to have it turned on. by the way, thanks for that link. i'll check it out and see if that helps
