Guest Sivik
I recently got a new laptop and got annoyed with the preloaded version of vista and considering its hard getting xp to format a sata hard drive, I decided to go ahead and give linux a try. I choose mandriva. But I'm in a situation. I can't figure out how to install the drivers for my wireless card so I can access the internet on it. http://www.gateway.com/retail/m6817.php thats the model laptop I have. the wireless card I have is a Intel® PRO/Wireless 4965AGN and I have the iwlwifi and mac80211 files sitting extracted on the linux installed lapto (by burning from another computer and extracting the .tgz files) I'm not all that linux suave can someone help me install this drivers so I can have internet on there so I don't have to keep borrowing someone elses computer? adamw
Installing iwlwifi from scratch is rather tricky. You'd probably be better off trying a Mandriva Linux 2008 beta, which has this driver included. Beta 1 is available now and Beta 2 (with updated wireless drivers) will be available next week. SoulSe
Might find the answer with other Gateway models under Linux. Arch seems to be an option for that chipset. Will probably find that rolling your own kernel under Mandriva (or any other distro) is your best bet. It's not as difficult as it sounds :)
