Installing bootsplash theme

Hi

Using Mandriva 2007.1, after a kernel update, my basic bootsplash theme disappeared (the basic orange background Mandriva-One theme). It is still in /usr/share/bootsplash/themes and in /etc/bootsplash/themes though, but in the control centre the bootsplash list is completely empty. All the "current" link files in /usr/share/bootsplash/themes and in /etc/bootsplash/themes give an error: erro while loading /usr/share/bootsplash/current or /etc/bootsplash/themes/current/current: /usr/share/bootsplash/current or /etc/bootsplash/themes/current/current doesn't exist. When I boot now, I get a bootsplash with a black background and Tux at the top. I do not know where this theme comes from. I am using GRUB. How do I get the basic Mandriva-One bootsplash theme back?

You have somehow unintentionally selected Grub with text instead of with gui.

Open MCC got to boot and select Set up how the system boots and then select Grub with gui menu in there.

Cheers. John.

In grub's menu.lst file, set

splash=verbose

to

splash=silent

Which is the default setting for a graphical bootscreen.

Sorry to be replying to an older thread, but I have a similar problem.

After installing Mandriva 2008 One, after it gets past the GRUB (with graphical menu), it eventually displays: Splash (something) not found.

I looked in menu.lst and "splash=" is not in any of the three entries (linux, failsafe, desktop586).

Can splash=silent be added anywhere or at the end in these lines?

timeout 10
color black/cyan yellow/cyan
gfxmenu (hd0,0)/boot/gfxmenu
default 0

title linux
kernel (hd0,0)/boot/vmlinuz-desktop586 BOOT_IMAGE=linux root=/dev/hda1 resume=/dev/hda3
initrd (hd0,0)/boot/initrd-desktop586.img

title failsafe
kernel (hd0,0)/boot/vmlinuz BOOT_IMAGE=failsafe root=/dev/hda1 failsafe
initrd (hd0,0)/boot/initrd.img

title desktop586 2.6.22.12-1
kernel (hd0,0)/boot/vmlinuz-2.6.22.12-desktop586-1mdv BOOT_IMAGE=desktop586_2.6.22.12-1 root=/dev/hda1 resume=/dev/hda3
initrd (hd0,0)/boot/initrd-2.6.22.12-desktop586-1mdv.img

It says:

Looking for splash system... none

This is with splash=silent at the end of the "kernel" lines above in menu.lst and also without that in the lines.

timeout 10
color black/cyan yellow/cyan
gfxmenu (hd0,0)/boot/gfxmenu
default 0

title linux
kernel (hd0,0)/boot/vmlinuz-desktop586 BOOT_IMAGE=linux root=/dev/hda1 resume=/dev/hda3 splash=silent
initrd (hd0,0)/boot/initrd-desktop586.img

title failsafe
kernel (hd0,0)/boot/vmlinuz BOOT_IMAGE=failsafe root=/dev/hda1 failsafe
initrd (hd0,0)/boot/initrd.img

title desktop586 2.6.22.12-1
kernel (hd0,0)/boot/vmlinuz-2.6.22.12-desktop586-1mdv BOOT_IMAGE=desktop586_2.6.22.12-1 root=/dev/hda1 resume=/dev/hda3 splash=silent
initrd (hd0,0)/boot/initrd-2.6.22.12-desktop586-1mdv.img

Both bootsplash and bootsplash-themes are also installed.

I was able to resolve the issue I had. I am guessing that something did not save at first. When I went into the Boot menu in the Control Center, I re-selected the same Theme that it had been using at the time, then re-saved that selection. At the next bootup, everything appeared fine.
