Guest flare
If like me you are wondering why Java doesn't work for your browser, then this page reveals all http://plugindoc.mozdev.org/whichjava.html Note for MDK 9.1 you have to use the Blackdown version of a JDK. Remove any Sun pre-existing ones first.
DragonMage
In case of 9.1, for mozilla, Sun's JRE works allright. I think it's because mandrakesoft compiles mozilla packages with gcc 2.9.6 to maintain compatibility. However, texstar's phoenix packages doesn't work with Sun's JRE. I am going to download the gcc 3.2 version of blackdown and check whether it works for both mozilla and phoenix. If not.. well.. I guess I can get mozilla source rpms and recompile it. Thanks for the tip Flare.
tyme
I installed phoenix just from downloading it from mozilla.org, not from the texstar RPMs, and Sun JRE works fine w/that version.
Guest flare
OK you are correct I am using Phoenix downloaded from Texstar's RPM's. After downloading the Blackdown JRE Java now works fine. One other "benefit" is that Java Web Start also works.
