kamsmart
Hello all, I am trying to install Mandriva Spring 2007 from the Free DVD on my Sager laptop (P4 - 2.4 GHz, 1 GB RAM, ATI Radeon). I currently have a Windows XP home installed on it, with a dual boot of RedHat Linux (non-working version .. could install successfully, but does not bot successfully in RedHat). When I tried to install from Mandriva Free DVD, it found the Red Hat install, and asked me whether I wanted to upgrade the RedHat install to Mandriva or to erase it and install Mandriva fresh from scratch. I chose the "upgrade" option. The install process went successfully until the bootloader option. I took a few pictures of the install process. Please click the link below for them: http://picasaweb.google.com/kamsmart/Mandr...key=eD3pKH4yGv0 I have included the picture of the error, as well as the screen when I press Ctrl+Alt+F# I tried re-installing Mandriva. This time, the DVD install process found Mandriva on the HDD and asked me whether I wanted to delete the packages or update them. I chose update, and the process stopped at exactly the same place. (The upgrade of the packages was very fast though, because there was no effective update of the packages .. since I had installed them from the DVD itself). Please note that in the screen view of Ctrl+Alt+F4, there is the entry for the eth2: IEEE 1394. I got the same error while installing the RedHat months earlier. My old RedHat installation has been but dormant all these days. I would really appreciate your help. I am sold by Mandriva's capabilities. My friend gave me the LinuxPro magazine with the Mandriva Free DVD for Spring 2007, which I was trying to install. Thanks and regards! I chose the "upgrade" option. I think that this would have been a good place to choose 'erase it and install Mandriva'. You can update a Mandriva system, but not a RedHat system to Mandriva without problems. At this point I would suggest formating the drive and doing a clean install.
