VirtualCity network detection [solved]

I have installed on HD Virtualcity and customerize to be a server for LTSP.

It is working perfectly and has even remaster it to create a Livecd (Livedvd) from the HD installation.

LTSP use 2 network cards. After a few weeks, i had to replace one of them on the HD installation because the card stop working. The new card was detected as eth2 when the intention was that it replaced the removed eth0. Using every available option on MCC has not help.

I would like to know which software is run during installation from livecd to HD to detect and configure the network cards. This software does a great job because has been detecting the cards correctly.

Maybe if i could run this software, the new card would be detected easier. This problem has been present even on the old installation of mandriva 2007 from original CD (not livecd).

The live cd and the hd installed system use the same detection routine as a normal MDV system, backend: the drakxtools, the GUI: drakconnect, a part of the Mandriva Control Center.

You could try:

Make sure that the service harddrake is enbled (MDV Control Center

su
service network stop

Then in MCC --> network, remove all network devices.

Restart the xserver, CTRL-ALT-backspace

Control the following files:

1.

/etc/modprobe.conf

Which driver is assigned to which network card?

2. /etc/iftab

the nework devices and their mac adresses

Are they ok?

3. /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts

There should be no ifcfg-eth(x) files, because you removed them.

4. /etc/udev/rules.d/61-net_config.rules

-- should not have incorrect entries

Now try to setup a new network device. MCC --> network

If you have only one eth device it should be eth0
