Guest Fuzzy Logic
Hello people.. I'm quite new to the server-world. I have managed to get my webserver working together with FTP, but I also want to use the server as a mailserver. I find the postfix documentation and the documentation on the internet very confusing, it doesn't make me wiser. So can someone please explain me how I can get my mailserver working with IMAP and SMTP? The second thing I had a question about is PHP. Mandriva installs PHP5 per default, but my experience is that a lot of scripts don't work under PHP5, thats why a lot of commercial hosts use 4 instead of 5. That is what I also want to do. Is that easily possible to accomplish? Thanks in advance!
aioshin
I find the postfix documentation and the documentation on the internet very confusing, it doesn't make me wiser. So can someone please explain me how I can get my mailserver working with IMAP and SMTP? I know postfix.org itself has so many information.. detailed information on how to install POSTFIX. Just read and understand their given example.. and how-to... its all there already... IMAP - http://dovecot.org has also lots of howtos... and its very simple to install ... you may want to try it. PHP5, Mandriva 2007 ships php5 by default.. if you want to use php version 4, then try the previous version of mandy or (different distro).. if you dont want to install from souce. ianw1974
A nice easy way to get postfix running in Mandriva. First installed the drakwizard application, it's a collection of wizards for configuring server stuff such as mail servers, etc. Then, go into System/Configuration/Configure Your Computer and then look through the screens here and you'll find a wizard for configuring a mail server. This won't take care of the imap stuff, but this can be done later anyhow.
theYinYeti
I use Postfix and Bincimap for mail. Bincimap you just install, and that's all :) It works, mail is stored in your home's Maildir directory. Postfix relevant configuration line (main.cf file) is: home_mailbox = Maildir/ All else is your standard Postfix configuration. See here for more information on my config: https://mandrivausers.org/index.php?showtopic=33734 Yves.
