Access the desktop using Java enabled browser

The remote sharing on KDE 3.1 uses VNC. When running the Windoze VNC server, I can connect using a browser address like "http://computerIP:5800". I use the IP to avoid DNS issues.

When I try that on the Mandrake 9.1, page cannot be displayed. When I try port 5900 I get "RFB 003.003" displayed in the browser.

The VNC documentation http://www.uk.research.att.com/vnc/javavncviewer.html explains

you may need to specify the directory which contains the class files in the vncserver script.  The Win32 server has the classes embedded in the server itself.

Where is that in Mandrake 9.1???

I found a workaround. Use the latest WEBMIN in the OTHERS tab there's a VNC feature where you can remote control that computer. I had to change the default port from 5901 to 5900 in the "Module Config", but it works using the browser. Sweet.

P.S. Webmin is truely a KILLER APP for Linux. I believe the ease in which one can remotely administer a server will truely make more people turn to Linux.
