Any ideas?

 

When I start ktorrent as root, it's fine. I don't think running it with root privileges is a good idea, though.

Very strange. The only thing I can think of is to trying running ldconfig as root, then trying ktorrent again as a regular user. Also create a new user account to see if it works there.

What about deleting ~/.kde/share/config/ktorrentrc , clearing your /tmp directory and relaunching it?
