On Free 2007, there are different but same-named versions of libc, libm, libpthread,

and librt in /lib and in /lib/i686. What is the difference and how would I decide which

ones I want?

I would assume (though I do not know, as I am not a Mandriva employee, nor is 99.99999999999999999999999999999% of the people here) that they exist because there may be some programs that require different versions of the libraries to run. So, they have more than one version available.

For you, unless the program specifically requires an older version that's available, go with the latest version.
