Guest kyle Posted March 22, 2003 Report Share Posted March 22, 2003 Installed Cooker RC2 on Laptop (Advent 7003) Most of hardware correctly detetected (except PCMCIA/Cardbus but that's another story) login as Root after text start up STARTX then get Red screen KDE starting up then no apps -- red screen and computer hangs Login as normal user in text mode Issue STARTX command KDE starts normally ????? help BTW this problem re-occurs whether I install cooker from new or upgrade from Mandrake 9 I've also installed this on desktop (RC2) -- this problem doesn't occur Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
Michel Posted March 22, 2003 Report Share Posted March 22, 2003 It 's a problem that your computer hangs, but the red screen is normal if you didn't know that.... It is not recommended that you start up root in graphicalmode, I suppose it is not so secure or something, but don't know that for sure. Is "no apps" and error, o just no applications? I suppose the last.Is there an error listed on the logs? you can view something in textmode (if you wouldn't know, but I think you do) by "view filename". exist bij pressing ":q" and enter. It would be easier if there was an error message or something... µ£I blieve I have had the problem also in rc1, but only once I think..
