jofg
OK Here is the reference I am using. http://www.mozilla.org/support/firefox/faq#q2.2 Firefox 2 directory-> /home/jose/Documents/firefox In Konsole, I cd, then ./firefox to open browser Java Directory-> /usr/java/j2sdk1.4.2_08/jre/plugin/i386/ns610-gcc32 I checked to see which gcc version Firefox has so I use the gcc32 folder right? I have Mandriva 2006. Following the instructions from the above link [root@localhost jose]# ln -s /usr/java/j2sdk1.4.2_08/jre/plugin/i386/ns610-gcc32/libjavaplugin_oji.so ln: `./libjavaplugin_oji.so': File exists [root@localhost jose]# I try Yahoo java games, and it still doesn't load. Any ideas? Thanks I also noticed that in -> /home/jose/Documents/firefox/plugins there is also a /libjavaplugin_oji.so Java is enabled in Firefox, but still can't link it. Is this the correct command -> ln -s /usr/java/j2sdk1.4.2_08/jre/plugin/i386/ns610-gcc32/libjavaplugin_oji.so thanks again OK I just installed Azureus and it loaded the java /////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// Java exec not found in PATH, starting auto-search... pmpatrick
Is this the correct command ->ln -s /usr/java/j2sdk1.4.2_08/jre/plugin/i386/ns610-gcc32/libjavaplugin_oji.so That would only work if you were in your firefox plugin directory when you ran the command. The easier way to do that if you're using kde is to open konqueror and navigate to your firefox plugin directory. Then open another konqueror instance and navigate to the jre plugin directory where libjavaplugin_oji.so is located and drag the file to the firefox plugin directory. Select the create link option from the drop down menu. You don't need to be root to create that link using kde IIRC.
jofg
Thanks That was a lot easier. To link java to Firefox I did as you replied. 1. java plugin is in -> /home/jose/Download/jre1.5.0_09/plugin/i386/ns7 // there is also a ns7-gcc29 folder, but that plugin did not work 2. Firefox 2 plugin is in -> /home/jose/Documents/firefox/plugins // from previous attemps, there were other libjavaplugin_oji.so, that were either // linked to Firefox, or were just lying around dormant // I removed those plugins using rm -r < file > // there should only be libnullplugin.so in the Firefox plugin directory. 3. Using trial and error I copied and pasted each javaplugin one at a time, from the java directory to the Firefox directory. If it didn't work, I removed and tried other plugin. The one that work was in ns7 folder. 4. Tried java games at Yahoo. Thanks again!
jofg
Not so fast. Now I can't hear sound in Java. Is this is Java issue or Firefox issue? How do I enable sound for Java in Firefox? The only thing I found on the Internet was that someone else was having trouble with Flash and sound, in Firefox 1.5 But there was no real solution. I haven't tried anything because I don't know where to begin. Thanks for any help.
