My internet connection is really bad (2kbps and only stays up for an hour at a time)! I have just installed MandrakeLinux 10.0 and wish to add 'main' and 'contrib' media sources for urpmi/rpmdrake for use in the future. I had the right hdlist files downloaded by a mate yesterday (i.e from: http://anorien.csc.warwick.ac.uk/mirrors/M...Mandrake/base/) namely: hdlist.cz & hdlist2.cz and synthesis.hdlist.cz and synthesis.hdlist2.cz.

My question is which files go to which directories? and do I have to edit any other files so that all this lot will work with urpmi/rpmdrake apps?

If anyone can help would much appreciate it. Thx

I would have thought that if your connection isn't reliable enough to even download the index files, then it won't be reliable enough to download the files that the index files point to.

Just to explain things a little better, for each repository you want to add, you can either get the hdlist file OR the synthesis.hdlist file. They both work the same, but the hdlist file contains more information (like descriptions, lists of included files etc) and is therefore much bigger than the synthesis.hdlist file.

I don't know how you would take the files you've got and plug them into your urpmi, but if you just choose the synthesis files then I think you should be ok to download them with your connection - they shouldn't be too big. And as I said if it really can't cope with that small download, then I'd be surprised if you'd be able to download anything on the list.

Maybe you could look at getting a CD or DVD containing the packages themselves, and then you can just use that as your urpmi medium instead of the online repositories. You can usually buy these CDs and get them posted to you, but maybe for something as old as Mandrake 10.0 (!) they might not be available any more.
