Hello all, i have Mandiva free 2007 installed on my Laptop. The FGLRX drivers are properly installed. I have an external monitor but just cant get it to work. It stays black. What i would like, is to get an extended desktop so i couple get one app on the Laptop screen and another one on the external monitor, the native resolution on the laptop is 1280X800, and i would like to have another resolution on the ext monitor. (around 1152X864)

My Xorg.conf is included.

Also f you see Obvious thing that i should modify in my Xorg.conf, please let me know.

I am only 3 days old into Linux.

look for clues by doing as root

cat /var/log/Xorg.0.log | grep EE

cat /var/log/Xorg.0.log | egrep 'EE|WW'

glxinfo can tell you things as well

But I think you are looking at what is called "cinerama"?

have no experience with that. I think there is a menu

in mandrake configuration center, and I do not know the capability

of the ATI driver

Also sometimes laptop hotkeys do not work

Can you even switch display? (Fn key + something?)

re hotkeys for laptop there is a kde application that needs setup,

it is called Kmilo (it could be called something else, look

for the laptop submenu in kde configuration)

  • 2 weeks later...

Hi, i am new to mandriva but have been using kubuntu and suse a while. When I have been setting up dual-screen with my ati laptop card, i have been using a tool (invoked from the terminal) called 'aticonfig'. This should be installed along with the fglrx drivers - its ati's official tool for configuring all things fglrx related. invoke it with no arguments, and see the different options you can use. I normally end up doing something like 'aticonfig --dtop=horizontal' - keep in mind if you use the 'aticonfig --dual-head' you will effectively end up with two different X's on each screen, not one big desktop ;-)

good luck!
