Guest patvan
Newbie here... I'm using 9.1 and I'm having problems with file permissions: I have a directory named /home/mp3 with the followings specs: drwx--x--x user: root group:mp3 It's on a reiserfs partition that was created before Mandrake was installed (from an old Gentoo install). Now, when I sudo chmod g+rw to gain access to it (my non-root user is in the mp3 group) all works fine and the directory now reads: drwxrwx--x However, after a while (30-60 mins), or after a reboot the permissions revert back to their original settings. What causes this, and how can I avoid it?
paul
I can almost lay money that it will be msec edit /etc/postfix/aliases and put your self in the root aliases example: # CHANGE THIS LINE to an account of a HUMAN root: paul@mandrakeusers.org after that run postalias /etc/postfix/aliases then you will recieve emails from msec and other services ... it should tell you when it changes things
Guest patvan
I tried your solution, but couldn't get it to work because: A) I can't run postalias because my machine "doesn't have a fully qualified hostname". B) I can't change the hostname because msec(?) keeps changing it back to its original value. It's the chicken vs. the egg problem... I tried using DrakPerm to add the home/mp3 directory to the list; seemed to work but it was then changed back to its original value. Curse you msec! Where would I find things that msec changed? somewhere in the var/logs?
Guest patvan
Well, it seems I probably did my edits in DrakPerm between two msec runs. The permissions are now sticking to what I put them in DrakPerm, even though I can't see them in DrakPerm. So DrakPerm was the way to go..
