ianw1974
Are you using the default drivers with the system? If so, then maybe try this next. It's case sensitive, so type it like I did below: urpmi Mesa and then restart your system and see if you get opengl using the: glxinfo | grep direct If not, then maybe try using the dkms-ati drivers. So: urpmi dkms-ati and then reboot and let this install into your kernel. Then you might need to go to a console prompt and run something like: aticonfig and go through this to make sure all is configured. Check your system first for opengl support with glxinfo before running this just in case all is OK. Also, try my first method with mesa first, as I can do this with my machine but cannot use any ATI driver or dkms-ati.
seraph741
ok, thanks! I got OpenGL working and am getting a FPS of about 1200 with glxgears. my question now is, should i try setting up the ATI drivers? would they be quicker or should i just stick with the OpenGL? ianw1974
I get 1200fps with my 128MB card, and I'm OK with it. I've tried getting ati's drivers working, but, they just don't work for me. Although never tried the aticonfig util, so it may have been this that was why. glxgears isn't a true representation anyway, but play a game and see how it feels. If it feels OK, then stay with this, much easier than trying to complicate things and cause further probs. If you do decide to try the ati ones, take a copy of your xorg.conf first, then you can easily restore it back later if it does go wrong with the ati drivers, or even the dkms-ati - they are the same.
