daniewicz
I have seen so many posts about Mandriva menu problems it feels like a cliche. There was a recent post here on MUB regarding playing MPEG-4 video files with mplayer. I found I was able to successfully play MPEG-4's by uninstalling the mplayer I was running and installing the following: 1.0-1.pre7.20051220.0.1.102plf. I also uninstalled and reinstalled kplayer along the way. It works great. The bad news is I now have kplayer listed twice in my k menu, and no matter what I do I cannot remove the offending duplicate. The duplicate resides between Control Center and Utilities and actually does not function when clicked upon. I have tried running menudrake to delete it, but it returns. I have run Menu Editor and deleted it, but it returns. I have deleted my .local and .config folders with no effect. I am frustrated. I know it is a small cosmetic thing. I am still pissed anyway. coverup
If you use kde, try (re)moving the offending entry from ~/.kde/share/applnk-mdk (or similar) or /usr/share/applnk-mdk. Apparently, somehow you created duplicate *.desktop files for this application.
daniewicz
Thanks so much coverup! I had an entry called kplayerpart.desktop in ~/.kde/share/applnk. I removed it and the offending menu item is gone. I appreciate your response. So now I can view MPEG-4 video files AND my menus are clean.
