      Mandriva Official Documentation

Official documentation for extant versions of Mandriva can be found at doc.mandriva.com.   Documentation for the latest release may take some time to appear there. You can install all the manuals from the main repository if you have Mandriva installed - files are prefixed mandriva-doc.

The Big Move (tm)

Recommended Posts

After some discussion amongst the administrators, and talks with various places, it has been decided that it's time for mandrivausers.org to find a new home.

We have been offered (at least) 5 years of hosting at http://osuosl.org on a Xen box with 10GB's of space. The move will occur later this week, with an estimated downtime of 4 hours (specific date and time to follow). In some places this downtime may be longer due to propogation of the DNS entry out to the rest of the world.

We already have the board up and running at our new host, so the plan is as follows:

  1. Turn off this board. Anyone visiting will get a message informing them of what is occuring and an estimated up time.
  2. Sync the SQL database from this board with the board at the new location, to be sure that all the most recent data is there. Myself, paul and mystified all keep backups of the board - so in the unlikely event that something is lost one of us will surely have it.
  3. Open the new board, do some basic testing to make sure things are as they should be.
  4. Update the DNS entries to point to our new home.
  5. Drink many beers

This is the basic plan, there are likely to be a few other small things that will need to be done.

Please note, this move is being done because it's a great opportunity for growth of the board.

At this time, we would like to thank Kernow Webhosting for the hosting that they've provided us, and all the support they've given us when things got bumpy. It's been greatly appreciated :)

Please see this thread if you have any questions.

The move will begin at approximately 9:30PM UTC/GMT on Wednesday, July 12th. We estimate a 4 hour down time for the DNS to rollover, meaning we should be back up around 1:30AM UTC/GMT. This may vary depending on how long it takes for the DNS entries to propogate. We will leave this board up but closed with information about the move and a point of contact if your find that after 24 hours you are still unable to access the board.

The move is complete and DNS entries should be updating.

I only bumped it because Ix had posted in the old thread about moving that was from 2004 and I thought it would be confusing to our members to see that as the newest post in this forum. :P

Guess I'm a "little" late to the party, but congratulations on the move.

While this was hosted with your previous hosting company, I did not have any issues whatsoever connecting to the site. :)
