Jas
hey.. just recently switched from kde to gnome.. and damn i really like it... but i noticed that when i receive a message on GAIM, my taskbar wont flash anymore, i did some googleing, but all i found were results for ubuntu and .deb's and some more confusing stuff :P anyone know how to resolve this issue in mandriva? arctic
Check the preferences → plugin section and the various checkboxes there. There should be a checkox for informing you about unread incoming messages.
Jas
yeah that's all the same as it was before.. i double checked, everythings set the way it was in kde to inform me of new messages, it still wont flash upon new messages
tyme
the taskbar flashing doesn't work in some older versions of GNOME. It doesn't make proper use of windows hints, IIRC. This is fixed in newer versions of GNOME (that is, next Mandriva release all should be fine). For now the best option is to have gaim add a * or a message count to the window title. Jas
theres no way i can just update gnome?
tyme
no easy way, no. as far as i know there aren't any rpms of the more recent gnome releases available for mandriva, and compiling it yourself will cause your head to explode. that is, it'll be extremely frustrating. the only real option, i think, is to go cooker...and that's buggy by itself. what version of mandriva are you running anyways? arctic
In cooker, there is a stable Gnome 2.12 available for download, as well as the still developmental Gnome 2.15 (it pretty stable for cooker).
