Guest rcu316
I have installed Mandrake 9.1 Beta 3 twice now, on 2 different computers, same problem on each. I can't log into root. It will boot staright into the user name I have set up. When I go to logout and switch users the only option it gives me is to click on the user to log back in. What am I missing out on here? Thanks, Roy
tyme
check in mandrake control center, boot options, make sure you don't have auto-login enabled. you shouldn't run any GUI as root, if you want to do work as root open a terminal and su to root. then do whatever it is you need to do from within that terminal. Guest rcu316
What I was trying to do was install the plugins for Mozilla, it won't let me do it unless I am in root mode. At least this is what I have experienced with Suse. Roy

Guest rcu316
I am pretty much a newbie, I am not sure I can ever do it this way but I will see if I can figure it out some way. Roy
Cannonfodder
You didn't by any chance set your security level to High or Highest did you? If you did, set it down a level and try again.. You should be able to change this in the Mandrake Control Center..
Guest rcu316
No, the security is set to standard. Roy
mdg
Go to KDE Contol Centre (if you're using KDE), look in System, Login Manager. Under "Users" tab, see if you have Root checked as a hidden user. If so, uncheck it so it will show up as an option in your login screen. However, using root like this is potentially dangerous. As stated in a previous post, the best way to use root is su/password in a console
