Guest devi
I tried to load Mandriva 2006 downloaded from a mirror site (both 3 Cds and One-CD forms). The CD is read and the thing starts but then says there is no CD drive. When I looked into the log files I had the following messges: For One-CD IDE0 i/o resource 0x1f0x1f ports already in use i/o error 0x170 0x17 not free error 2 mounting iso9660 flags ro For the regular 3CD has to insmod ide generic needs ide-generic succeeded ide generic have to insmod ide-cd need ide-cd error file exixts THe laptop has another linux - redhat 4 ws which gives problem with network Can any one help? My questions Is it necessary to have the drive unformatted and blank before installing mandriva? Is there any way of getting around the problem? ianw1974
Try booting with: linux noapic acpi=off and see if it helps, or even try adding one of these after if it fails: nolapic ide=nodma and post back how you get on.
pmpatrick
Post your laptop make and model. Some laptop manufacturers connect the optical drive to the system other than through the standard ide interface which can cause problems. Older Sony Vaios are known for this. There are some cheat codes you can use to get the install to go but they don't always work.
