ATI Radeon Express 200M Card on x86_64

I got a shiny Compaq M2000 with a Turion64 cpu and an ATI Radeon Express200M video card.

This works fine with the original 2006.0 released xorg (cvs)

Since one should not use cvs packages and also upgrade because of security upgrades, I did upgrade the xorg packages among others.

Unfortunately, my X11 is gone. I had to go back to the original xorg packages.

I was expecting more error messages posted on user lists or cooker and waited for a few weeks until trying to upgrade again.

But I noticed, there have been no new xorg package postings for quite some time.

Unfortunately, I don't remember the error messages, but it had something to do with glx.

I am using the box regularly and don't want to go through the problem again if I can avoid it.

Has anybody else successfully upgraded on this set-up?

Thomas

did you check your xorg setup when you upgrade? that is, /etc/X11/xorg.conf - it's possible something got changed in there during the upgrade, and simply editing this file may have fixed the issue. running XFdrake after the upgrade may have helped.

however, I don't personally have experience with ATI cards, so take my suggestions with that in mind ;)

  • 2 weeks later...

I just upgrade to Cooker xorg and still the same problem.

I am not very familiar with the ATI card, it's my business laptop.

What I get when I use the Radeon (fglrx) driver is:

(EE) Failed to load module "fglrx" (module requirement mismatch,0)

(EE) No device detected

Try to change some parametrers

I have a Radeon XPress 200 M (RS480 5955)

I can use the the Radeon drive but I get only about 500FRMS/s

the Radeon (fglrx) gave me 750fms/s
