Guest h.houdini
Hello. I have a Mandriva 2006, and KDE 3.4.2. I don't know why and precisely when, but some days ago the trashcan simply has disappeared from my desktop (i noticed it wasn't where it should be). It's not a problem with the icon: if a do ls -l in the desktop directory, the link to the bin is missing :( I can move files in the trashcan, by right-clicking and selecting Cancel, but i can't delete them forever (and the space in my hard disk is tightening more and more...). Can anyone help me? Thank you Edited April 10, 2006 by h.houdini
tyme
The "Trash Bin" is actually the .Trash directory in your home directory, i.e.: /home/[username]/.Trash You should be able to relink to it in the Desktop dir: ln -s ~/.Trash ~/Desktop/Trash Assuming it's just a link and not a .desktop file that needs to be there. scarecrow
Actually in KDE the trashbin is an icon pointing to KDE's virtual filesystem element "trash:/" So, you can just create on your desktop a link to "trash:/" without the quotes, pick an icon of your choice and go on... Guest h.houdini
Something strange has happened... actually, i can't find the .trash directory in my home directory, neither i can find the trash directory in the kde virtualfilesystem. Is there any way to recover it or rebuild it? The only directory similar to trash is /usr/bin/ktrash... could it be useful? tyme
.Trash is a hidden directory, do this: cd ~/.Trash it is case sensitive. it may be .trash, but i'm pretty sure it's .Trash. then you should be able to list the files in it: ls
angst
I'm not on my home system right now but I looked at my system before I ran out the door for work and noticed that I have a trash.desktop file in ~/Desktop dir. Maybe yours is missing or misconfigured?
scarecrow
And, what happens if you open Konqueror and type trash:/ in the address bar?
Guest h.houdini
So, you can just create on your desktop a link to "trash:/" without the quotes, pick an icon of your choice and go on... This is the right solution, thank you :) (maybe last time i made some error writing trash:/)
