I am trying to get my D-link DWL-650+ working on my Compaq Presario 700 laptop. I have been led to believe I need to use the ndiswrapper to do this. When i try to install ndiswrapper, I get a message saying that the package has a bad signature. how do I get a fresh copy on my laptop? I have a working internet connection through a wired connectio, but I would like to use my wireless. Can anyone help? :help:

Do not worry about "bad signature" warnings. Just install it. This warning comes up for protocol errors. If you got the file from some obscure source, then don't use it.

OK, so download the file to your /home directory and install it from there. On the command line, type "urpmi /home/username/filename" . You must do this as root.

OK, remember I'm still a newbie(I still don't know how to format a floppy!). I logged in as root and did "urpmi home/mypersonalusername/iwconfig" and I got back "no package named home/mypersonalusername/iwconfig". any thoughts? And why isn't something as basic as iwconfig part of the standard package?

Step by step

1) Download the file into your user directory. This wil be in /home/(whateveryour usernameis) Note: for my oen directory, it says /home/dan, because that is the name of my user.

2) In a console, cd to the directory. su to root, and type "urpmi /home/yourusername/the.file.name" Note: the file name is the complete name of the file, including the endings. For example, if I were installing the ndiswrapper, type "urpmi /home/dan/ndiswrapper-1.2-3mdk.i586.rpm"

OK, step 1"Download the file into your user directory". I know where my usr dir is, but how to dl into there, I'm not sure.

Here's what happened---

[hanakj@192 ~]$ su root

Password:

[root@192 hanakj]# urpmi /home/hanakj/ndiswrapper/ndiswrapper-1.2-3mdk.i586.rpm

unable to access rpm file [/home/hanakj/ndiswrapper/ndiswrapper-1.2-3mdk.i586.rpm]

error registering local packages

[root@192 hanakj]#

That means it does not exist in the directory. Did you download it?

Oh, I did not say usr, I said your users. It is in the /home directory.
