Guest jwl
Grrrrrr... I just tried to upgrade my Qt, and install to KDE 3.1 using urmpi. Now, KDE is completely broken. KDE itself won't run. Whenever I try to run a KDE app, I get this message: kword: relocation error: /usr/lib/libXft.so.2: undefined symbol: FcInit or konsole: relocation error: /usr/lib/libXft.so.2: undefined symbol: FcInit etc. Also, when I do startkde in a terminal, I get the following output: startkde: Could not start kdeinit. Check your installation. /usr/bin/startkde: line 223: xmessage: command not found ksplash: relocation error: /usr/lib/libXft.so.2: undefined symbol: FcInit Warning: connect() failed: : No such file or directory ksmserver: relocation error: /usr/lib/libXft.so.2: undefined symbol: FcInit startkde: Shutting down... Warning: connect() failed: : No such file or directory Error: Can't contact kdeinit! /tmp/mcop-jwl is not owned by user startkde: Running shutdown scripts... startkde: Done. Any help? Please? GNOME is OK, but I definitely prefer KDE ...
Counterspy
If you downloaded this from cooker, you should not be surprised that it didn't work. Cooker files are works in progress and in swatting one bug they may create several others and are not made for daily use. If you downloaded Texstar's version, there were problems with that as well as of yesterday. I have not looked today to see if he has fixed them. Guest jwl
Is there an easy way to restore the stock MDK 9 KDE installation? I'd happily revert, if there is an easy way to do it. The other option I'm thinking of is reinstalling. I may go back to Debian. I like Mandrake a lot, but it's a pain admin-wise. Debian never broke like this. Of course, installing Debian is another issue. But it's possible to install Debian using Knoppix ...
Guest ndeb
Install the rpm(s) Xft or the latest cooker XFree86 (which includes Xft).
