ianw1974
Figured I'd give Gentoo a go, so been working on installing it since yesterday. I've now just finished configuring LILO, and rebooted, and am getting the following error: Checking root filesystem...fsck.ext3: Bad magic number in super-block while trying to open /dev/sda3 /dev/sda3: The superblock could not be read or does not describe a correct ext2 filesystem. If the device is valid and it really contains an ext2 filesystem (and not swap or ufs or something else), then the superblock is corrupt, and you might try running e2fsck with an alternate superblock: It then mentions the filesystem cannot be fixed. Now I wouldn't mind, but I don't understand why it's giving me this error, since /dev/sda3 is a reiserfs partition. I need to find a way of stopping this check on the disk with fsck.ext3 somehow. The way I've set the system up is as per the documentation, so partitions are: /dev/sda1 = 32M (for /boot) /dev/sda2 = 512M (for swap) /dev/sda3 = / (rest of drive, so about 5.4GB) Any help much appreciated, I'm almost there :P
ianw1974
My lilo config is: boot=/dev/sdaprompt timeout=50 default=gentoo image=/boot/kernel-2.6.12-gentoo-r6 label=gentoo read-only root=/dev/sda3
ianw1974
Actually, I just realised the problem. /me was a donut last night (must have been late and wife hassling me). I'd not configured the fstab properly, and left the partition as ext3, I just booted from CD and edited to reiserfs, and now I'm OK :P Watch this space, I need to finish the install now :D
