hanes
Hello, I have a new version of Firefox (1.06) and and old version on my system (the one that came default through urpmi)... On the new version I can't watch any movies but on the old one I can (I guess this is because urpmi is putting the plugins somewhere and the new firefox doesnt know about it......) How do I fix this? Is there some kind of file I can edit to add a plugin? Thanks in advance
daniewicz
My firefox plugins are in: ~/.mozilla/plugins
cmus
Try adding mplayer-plugin from urpmi, it worked for me..
polemicz
For what it's worth, as I recall, 1.0.6 is no different that the Mandrake one on 2005 with all the patches.
daniewicz
I believe polemicz is correct. hanes, it might make sense to stay with the older version for the short term. Firefox 1.5 will be available sometime this Fall.
hanes
you know what really annoys me about the urpmi one, it uses the gnome file box, the one i download from the net uses the kde file/save box... Any idea how this works? Does mandriva change something in the script or something?
polemicz
Odd. Firefox is a gtk application (gnome libraries), but saving is saving and I've never had a problem with the gnome box.
daniewicz
hanes: This may help you get the qt luvin you desire. gtk-qt-engine-0.7-0.20050303.2mdk.i586.rpm can be installed to get better control over gtk applications colors. This behaves like a normal gtk theme engine, but calls functions from qt.

Any idea how this works? Does mandriva change something in the script or something? Mandriva compiles their own version of firefox, and I have not been impressed with it. In addition to the cosmetic complaint you have (which I agree with), the urpmi version also renders slower as measured by a benchmark known as the Scragz test. I found this test on the MozillaZine forums. I tried to attach this file to my post here but got the following error message: Upload failed. You are not permitted to upload a file with that file extension (xhtml).
