Re: Mandriva 2005 LE

I have an old computer (Dell ca. 1998, PII-400 w/256 MB ram) and I want to build a RAID 5 (software RAID) file server. File transfer speed is not an issue! Planning on 4 120 G drives using MB's built-in ATA controller and no separate boot/system drive

Can I use the graphical install to setup to:

create /boot mount as first 10 MB of boot drive, same partition created on the next 3 disks (will mirror with script monthly along with MBR so I can boot if main drive dies)

next partition, create 64 MB swap partition on all 4 drives (to be used at once)

root file system as the rest of all drives in the RAID set.

for first drive summed up as:

device      mount point    size                    comments

/dev/hda1      /boot        10M              mirrored manually

/dev/hda2    swap          64M        on each drive used concurrently

/dev/hda3        /          rest of HD          (used for RAID 5)

hdb, hdc, hdd partition tables the same

Can I do this easily with the drakx installer?

Any tips or advice?

Thank you in advance,

Kevin
