Guest imtrobin
Hi, I'm trying to increase the ulimit for mandrake 10 system. It's working for root user only. When I login as another user, I'm getting a ulimit: open files: cannot modify limit: Operation not permitted My steps are 1. Add these to /etc/security/limits.conf myuser hard nofile 4096 2. Add this to /etc/pam.d/login, /etc/pam.d/xdm, /etc/pam.d/sshd session required pam_limits.so When I do ulimit -n 4096 in root, it works. When I login as myuser, it gives the error above. What's wrong? [moved from Installing Mandrake by spinynorman]
Ixthusdan
? I'm not sure what you are trying to do, but it looks like to me an adjustment that only root can do. My next guess is that whatever operation you are running, it is also a root required function. What are you doing, anyway?
Guest imtrobin
Thanks for the reply. I have root acccess. I'm trying to increase file limit for all users. The ulimit change I did works for root user, however, I'm trying to get it work for normal users.
