Creating my own globetrotter?

I am a newbie here so forgive me if this subject was covered before.

Recently I changed my motherboard and the new one allows booting from USB device. So I thought maybe I can install Mandrake Linux in my USB HD and boot from it if connected. The boot order is : CD/DVD, USB HD, IDE HD. So if USB HD is connected, the Linux will run. If not Windows in IDE HD will run.

So my plan is to make my own version of Globetrotter. Why? I don't want the MBR in IDE HD to be changed. Also so I can connect the USB HD to my laptop.

I put the Linux install CD but problems appeared.

1- My Logitech USB wheel mouse does not work.

2- Install CD does not detect my USB HD.

When using Knoppix Live CD both Logitech mouse and USB HD are detected. So I conclude that BIOS is setup correctly.

Any ideas and suggestions are appreciated.

Thanks.
