I've got an old 8.2 installation that I haven't used in years, and I'm ready to try making the switch to Linux again. I want to know if an upgrade is ok or if I should just wipe it and start fresh.

I searched on '8.2', but the char. min. is 4. TIA

There are a lot of changes between 8.2 and 10.1. If you haven't used the system in a long time and you don't have anything on there that you can't lose, I would say wipe and start brand new. You'll be far less likely to have major compatibility problems that way.
