Guest Kinseek
I`ve downloaded the DVD iso image of Mandrake 10.1 and used an utility to create a boot diskette so I can load the CD. The problem here is that this boot diskette refuses to accept the DVD and gives me an error. In windows it takes a little time and some hard noises from the DVD-rom to actually read the DVD. I`ve tried burning it multiple times. Any fix? Is it also possible to install from a HD? I have a C: as primary and D: as logical, both NTFS. What would I need to copy and where? The ISO or the actual files from the DVD? Edited February 28, 2005 by Kinseek
adamw
Yes, you can install from hard disk; I _think_ NTFS partitions work. For 10.1 you'd need the actual files; with 10.2 you'll be able to use the ISOs directly, thanks to the rewritten underlying installer code. There are Windows utilities to extract the files from the ISO directly without actually writing it to a DVD, I believe. You'll need to find the hd.img file from the DVD, or just download it from a mirror, write that to a floppy, and boot from it; that will get you into the hard disk installation routine. Just out of interest - can your machine not just boot straight from the DVD?
