Xorg updated to 6.8.2, kernel sources updated, ATI drivers installed , fglrxconfig is configured properly as far as my knowledge goes. and everything ok...So it says, but yet I have very slow 3d acceleration on my ATI 9800 pro. where do I turn next?

I tested 3d acceleration with point2play by transgaming, I have no open GL and Very slow direct3d.

Any help would be great

I have the same problem:

I'm using a Mandrake 10.1 community on an Athlon Xp 2500+, with a Nvidia nForce2 chipset based motherboard, and a Sapphire Ati Radeon 2600 (256 Mb).

Xorg version: 6.8.2

driver version: fglrx_6_8_0-8.10.19-1.i386.rpm

After the installation, I tried to run glrxgears. These are the results:

749 frames in 5.0 seconds = 149.800 FPS
693 frames in 5.0 seconds = 138.600 FPS
1980 frames in 5.0 seconds = 396.000 FPS
2772 frames in 5.0 seconds = 554.400 FPS
and so on

So, something has gone wong.

I tried to run fglrxinfo, so I had the confirmation that I had no 3-d accelleration at all:

display: :0.0  screen: 0
OpenGL vendor string: Mesa project: www.mesa3d.org
OpenGL renderer string: Mesa GLX Indirect
OpenGL version string: 1.2 (1.5 Mesa 6.2.1)

In /var/log/X110.log I read:

(II) Loading extension ATIFGLRXDRI
(II) fglrx(0): doing DRIScreenInit
drmOpenDevice: node name is /dev/dri/card0
drmOpenDevice: open result is 8, (OK)
drmOpenDevice: node name is /dev/dri/card0
drmOpenDevice: open result is 8, (OK)
drmOpenByBusid: Searching for BusID PCI:2:0:0
drmOpenDevice: node name is /dev/dri/card0
drmOpenDevice: open result is 8, (OK)
drmOpenByBusid: drmOpenMinor returns 8
drmOpenByBusid: drmGetBusid reports
drmOpenDevice: node name is /dev/dri/card1
drmOpenDevice: open result is -1, (No such device)
drmOpenDevice: open result is -1, (No such device)
drmOpenDevice: Open failed

and, after some other row:

WW) fglrx(0): ***********************************************
(WW) fglrx(0): * DRI initialization failed!                  *
(WW) fglrx(0): * (maybe driver kernel module missing or bad) *
(WW) fglrx(0): * 2D acceleraton available (MMIO)             *
(WW) fglrx(0): * no 3D acceleration available                *
(WW) fglrx(0): ********************************************* *

.

The module agpgart and fglrx are correctly loaded, as I can see with lsmod.

So... what can I do? Can someone help me (us)? DO you need some other information?

If it says this:

OpenGL vendor string: Mesa project: www.mesa3d.org

...your not using the ati driver.

Have a look in the Tips & tricks forum, there is a few good tips there for ati drivers.
