Guest brombie
Hi all, It's been a while since I've installed and used Linux so I thought Mandrake would be a good start. However, I'm having some issues with my networking. I think they may all be related: - During boot up, the sequence would stop at "Starting netprofile" for a long time. The wait time seems very random - sometimes less than 5 minutes, but most times, it seems forever and I have to force restart from hardware. Does anyone know what may cause this? Even better if you can tell me where to look for clues. - eth0 (LAN/ethernet) is working fine but eth1 (wireless - Intel PRO/Wireless 2200) is still not working. Looks like it's a firmware problem, namely it's not finding it. The firmware files start with something like ipw-2.2, while dmesg shows the system is trying to find firmware that starts with ipw2200. Can anyone tell me where I can change this? Which is the more appropriate thing to do? Change the firmware file name or change the config that contains the firmware file name? My guess is the former. The second problem is easier to solve if only the system lets me log back me in :) It keeps hanging on the netprofile so I can't make any progress with the eth1 problem. My system: Sager 3790 laptop P4 2GHz 1G memory Intel Pro/Wireless 2200 Realtek ethernet Let me know if there are more information I need to give. thanks a bunch! wan
coverup
Go to /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-eth1 and change ONBOOT=yes to ONBOOT=no. Then restart network and see what happens.
