Guest GBee
Apologies if this has been covered before or even somewhere else on the web. I usually allocate 30 minutes to searching before I give up and ask (any searchs involving 'kernel' inevitably bring up hundreds of irrelevant results). To use a new bit of hardware (Hauppauge Nova-T PCI) I need to patch the kernel (pref 2.6.10). My problem is which source to use. I would normally use the Mandrake packaged version but there are no SRPMs of 2.6.10 for x86_64 yet. What difference, if any, is there between the i586 version and a x86_64 version?? What difference is there between Mandrakes kernel source and the one from kernel.org If I grab the kernel.org/i586 source is it easy to patch it up to match the functionality of the Mandrake X86_64 source? Or is the extra functionality of the Mandrake source irrelevant?
