MCC - Software Wizard not responding

Well, this is where I tell you that it is time for drastic measures.

Maybe your download disks were bad? Did you do an md5sum on them? Do you still have the ISOs and the *.md5sum files to check them with?

I would either:

(1) Use those disks to do an 'Upgrade' (not a complete reinstall...choose the Upgrade option)

or

(2) Download 10.1 and do an Upgrade with it. Of course checking the md5sums.

Yes Still have discs. As I said in earlier post - for me its no problem (at the moment anyway) to just ignore the opening messages and accept that software management is u/s. I will wait for 10.2 (sometime in March is my understanding and do upgrade then. Anyway Steve it has been a good experience for me to work with you (albeit at a distance - about 3000m at a rough estimated) and a learning one for me.

Thanks again for all your help

Phil from Frome. Som. UK

It may not solve your problems, but you omitted --replacefiles when you retyped the parameters... :)

Should read:

rpm -ivh --replacefiles --replacepkgs perl-5.8.1-0.RC4.3mdk.i586.rpm

Note the spaces between options/switches.

Hi Spiny Norman and Anon.

Well noted your comments and I did infact originally enter the correct line into console (wonderful thing cut andpaste :D )

For the sake of good order and to be certain have just done same again with following result.

[ phil]$ su

Password:

locale: Cannot set LC_CTYPE to default locale: Invalid argument

locale: Cannot set LC_MESSAGES to default locale: Invalid argument

locale: Cannot set LC_ALL to default locale: Invalid argument

[phil]# cdDesktop

bash: cdDesktop: command not found

[ phil]# cd Desktop

Desktop]#

[root Desktop]# rpm -ivh --replacefiles --replacepkgs perl-5.8.1-0.RC4.3mdk.i586.rpm

error: Failed dependencies:

perl-base = 2:5.8.1-0.RC4.3mdk is needed by perl-5.8.1-0.RC4.3mdk

perl(re) is needed by perl-5.8.1-0.RC4.3mdk

perl(warnings::register) is needed by perl-5.8.1-0.RC4.3mdk

[root Desktop]#

Thanks for your interest in my difficulties. Any suggestions gratefully received . Your keen eyes will have noted my ability to enter cdDesktop without the space. Says legions for my CLI ability
