Guest Faerie
Hi all! Im pretty new to linux so excuse me if this is a stupid question. I just installed Mandrake and got almost everything working except one rather annoying thing. Linux has looked my keyboard with the function key pressed in. When the function key is pressed some letters turn into the set of numericals often found on the right side of a normal keyboard. Im running mandrake 10.1 with Gnome. I tried switching keyboard layouts in gnome but none of the (tried them all) seemed to work. Anyone got a solution for this problem? Thanks
devries
Interesting problem :) According to Google ( http://www.naos.co.nz/hardware/laptop/acer-361evi/x94.html ) you need to tap the key 2 times quickly. Hope it works. Good luck.
Guest Faerie
I reinstalled and the numlock key worked again, so problem solved.
Guest Passeto
I got the same problem with an Acer 345T and you don't needed to reinstall Mandriva to solve it! It is quite simple, in normal keyboards it is necessary to activate de Numlock when system started (it's quite confortable when numbers of numPad are separated from the main keyboard!). To disable Numlock, simple press either Fn + NumLk (F12) and it imediatelly disables Numlock function in Acer. So, login as Root. Then go to Mandriva Control Center, "System", "Enable or Disable Services" and, voilà! All the process that starts when your system is loading. Search for a process named "Numlock" and uncheck it for when your system starts. The next time you reboot your machine you will not have auto-activation of Numlock function anymore.
